Jersey Girl

I’m not a Jersey Girl by birth, although I do have naturally big hair.  But maybe I’m one by extension, since my mom and grandmother were both born in South Jersey.

I went to Atlantic City this weekend to visit some relatives.  Here are some pictures:

The picture with the view of the bay is a lot next to my great-grandparents’ house.  This house is now owned by one of my cousins and her husband.

After the morning walk with the dog, I went for a walk on the boardwalk.  I walked at least 5 km – my cousin told me that I walked the same route he walked when he participated in a 5 km walk.  Here are some pictures I took along the way:

Last weekend there were two movies being filmed in Atlantic City.  So everywhere we went, we saw barricades and notices up to clear the way for filming.   I saw all the equipment and barricades outside Boardwalk Hall (former location for the Miss America pageant), and I thought that maybe this was one of the filming locations.  But it probably wasn’t  – there was supposed to be some fight there on Saturday night and that’s probably why there was so much fuss.  The closest that I may have gotten to any of the filming was when we went out to dinner at Los Amigos – as we walked in the restaurant three guys in front of us were talking and I heard one of them talking about script changes.  Hmmmm.

Then, I got some pictures of Steel Pier and the Taj Mahal casino, the point at which I turned around and walked back in the direction I came,  Here are those pictures:

I’ve heard a million stories about Steel Pier, and all the good times that were had there. . .The Taj Mahal was the tallest building in Atlantic City when it was built.  I remember that it used to stand out in Atlantic City’s skyline, but not anymore – nearly all the other casinos are almost as tall.

So we are going to Atlantic City again this weekend for Independence Day.  We were going to leave Thursday night, then we were going to leave on Friday morning.  Now we’re back to heading out tomorrow night.  So, I didn’t go to Knit Night tonight because I need to get ready for the trip – I am also working tomorrow, from 7 am to 3 pm.  So most of my preparation needs to happen tonight.
