A Very Random Thursday

I am still so busy playing catch-up.  I missed virtually two weeks of school, and it shows in some of my results, unfortunately.

My least favorite class right now?  Ecology.  It is just too tedious for my taste.  Sure, I understand why I need to take it, where it fits in the whole scheme of biology, how it relates to microbiology and cell and molecular biology.  The first day of class, our professor explained the difference between environmentalists and ecologists.  I can say that I am in the first category, not the second!

My favorite class right now is probably my Recombinant DNA Lab.  I love running the experiments in that lab, they’re so much fun.  Plus you kind of get to pretend you are in an episode of CSI.  He he.

I wanted to try to go to Knit Night last night.  But I have been sick for the past few weeks, so I’m pretty tired.  (Not H1N1, fortunately.)  And I have a lab to write up due later today.  And I needed to wash scrubs so I have something to wear to work today. . .need to be there bright and early, 7AM!

I’m also made split pea soup.  One of my favorite comfort foods!  Whenever we have a ham, I make sure that I make some spit pea soup from the bone.  The funny thing that I now always think whenever I make this soup is that it starts off looking like I’m making hot ham water! It smells so good in this house right now, still. . .

I have been knitting.  I know that my Ravelry page and some of the finished object pages are woefully behind in their documentation.  I bought something recently that might help with that.  My pictures of finished objects in the mirror haven’t been that great, and I’ve gotten to the point where I refuse to take another one of those pictures.  For a while now, I have wanted to buy a tripod for my digital camera.  I considered a few, and finally bought a Gorillapod from amazon.  It was on sale for an unbelievably low price, and it came in the mail just last week, along with some other goodies.  I also bought a gram scale for weighing yarn.  I’ve had a few projects lately for which the ability to accurately split a ball of yarn into two more-or-less-equal parts is going to be important.  So, I bought the scale.  It’s small, but I think that with the weighing boat it should cover most of my needs.  It’s not as it I’m parceling out gold dust.

And finally, since I needed to bring my total up to $30 in order to get the free shipping I got this.  I really don’t have room in my house for another knitting book, but I think this one is worth breaking the rules!  There are two other books I’d like to have, and I might buy one or both of them before the end of the year because I have a gift card for the local mall that is burning a hole in my wallet.

My latest project (not on Ravelry yet) is a sweater I am making for my soon-to-be-nephew.  Five more weeks to go!  Anyway, his parents requested a Flyers themed sweater and I said that I would knit it.  I started that sweater on Sunday.  I’m making it in the round, and I put in faux seams at the sides.  Without pictures, that’s all I want to say about the sweater right now.  Except that the parents keep asking about the sweater, etc., and just have been displaying very unknitworthy behavior.   I try to remember that this is for my nephew!  I did also buy yarn to make an Eagles themed sweater.  But I think I am going to make a 9-12 month size or even a 12-18 month size.  My nephew will be born at the end of December, and I think that this year the Eagles season will be over, or will be close to being over, by that time!  I was surprised a few weeks ago to learn that we were tied for first place in our division (?) with Dallas, and we lost to them and I think every team since that time.  I’m not a rabid football fan, so I’m not really up to date on the status of the Eagles’ season, except that so far it sucks.  And that Brian Westbrook might be suffering from permanent brain damage from back to back head trauma.
