Finished Objects 2008

Here are my finished objects for 2008:

The Bounce beret is my final finished object for 2008.  I used Manos del Uruguay 100% Wool for this hat.  Originally intended for my mother, the hat came out too big for her, and was not really her style either.  It looks better on me, to be honest.  I did knit her a replacement hat that she seems to like much better.  Anyway, I could not get a good picture of me modeling it, so here is the on-the-floor shot of the top of the hat:

The socks below are my “Season 3 Socks” for the Friends knit-along.  I knit these using Louet Gems Fingering Weight yarn.  The pattern is Coupling from Knitty, Summer 2007.

I used Knit Picks Shine Worsted in Laurel for the Backyard Leaves Scarf pictured below. The pattern is by Annie Modesitt and is available in Scarf Style. I gave this to one of my co-workers and she loved it!

I used Artyarns Ultramerino 4 in a red colorway for the Friends Season 2 socks. The pattern is Monkey by Cookie A., available in Knitty Winter 2006.

My first pair of socks. From Wendy Johnson’s generic toe-up formula. I used Knit Picks Sock Memories yarn. These were made for the Friends Season knit-along group for the group I belong to on Ravelry. Most people are knitting socks, but basically any project can be made. Most of us are also making the projects in a yarn color that matches the box in which the particular season is packaged. The color for Season 1 is a blue-violet color.

The Clementine Shawlette from Interweave Knits Spring 2007 issue. I used the yarn in the pattern, Blue Sky Alpacas. I originally made this to wear to my sister’s wedding this September, I but now she has ordered wraps for all of her bridesmaids to wear. It’s all good, I might not have made the shalwlette in this color if making it for myself, but the yarn was wonderful to knit with and the result is beautiful.

I knit this for my mother. The yarn used was Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece. The pattern is Gayle from the book Hot Knits by Melissa Leapman.

The pattern is Evangeline, from the now-defunct MagKnits. Glad I downloaded it before the website was pulled. Knit from Patons Classic Wool.

The afghan below was made for my brother for Christmas. his birthday. This is a heavily modified pattern based upon the Half-and-Half Afghan in Sarah Dallas’ book, Knitting. Knit with Lion Brand Wool-Ease.

My first finished knit for 2008 was my Calorimetry.  I made this one in a hurry because frigid temperatures were predicted for the following day.  The yarn used was heavier than the yarn called for in the pattern.  Do I remember the exact modifications I made, other than casting on fewer stitches?  Of course not!  The yarn I used was Paton’s Rumor, which sheds like you wouldn’t believe and has none of wool’s “spring”,  but other than that, it’s a pretty warm accessory and just another addition to my ever-expanding stash of mismatched winter scarves and hats.  One of these days, I’m going to make myself a nice matching hat and scarf set!
